FYI

I won't be able to update the downloads this weekend because I am indulging in one of my other fandoms. Lindsey Buckingham is touring for the first time in 14 years and I'm making the most of it, catching him in Cincinnati, Detroit, and Chicago (Frey still has the edge over Buckingham for me, though! But don't tell my fellow Buckingham fans. They don't even know I have a Frey site in addition to my old Buckingham Nicks site which has been woefully neglected since I started GFO - they want me to get back to updating that site and might feel a bit betrayed).

But back to Frey. There's some news here that might be of interest to Eagles fans - but not everyone is happy about it!

Downloads - finally

Finally got the downloads rotated - the MP3 is Lyin' Eyes from Long Beach 1980 and the video is Livin' Right from Dublin 1992. Watching Glenn Frey get down and get funky in the latter might give you a lift - it helped me momentarily get my mind off of the fact that I have writer's block on my dissertation and that the little I have managed to write sucks.

Sad news - passing of Jeff Alborell

I have been informed that Jeff Alborell, former bandmate of Glenn Frey’s, passed away on October 4 in Birmingham, Michigan. In Detroit in the 60s, Alborell and Frey were in the band The Four of Us (Alborell was the bassist). Later, the two split from the group and formed a new group, The Heavy Metal Kids. When Frey wanted to leave Detroit behind and head to California to “make it,” Alborell went with him. You can read more about that time in Detroit here (scroll down past the photo of the Mushrooms to get to the part regarding Alborell).

He was 59.

Multimedia Updates and Tiger Woods Benefit Page

I added a page for the recent Tiger Woods "OC Block Party" benefit to the Frey Solo Tour Archive. I also updated the multimedia downloads - this week, it's a MP3 of Take It to the Limit from the Ken Salazar Fundraiser in 2004 and a video of True Love from San Diego in 1992.

Frey Sightings
  • According to their newsletter, the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor's National Association (SMACNA) is having Glenn Frey play at their convention in Phoenix on October 11.

Forgotten Frey Sighting - Party of Two at Tiger Woods Benefit

I announced this a while back, but now that it's actually about to happen, I almost forgot to put it under "Frey Sightings." Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh will be playing at a Tiger Woods benefit this Saturday (Oct. 7) in Anaheim, California. No more tickets available though!

Downloads and reminiscing

Changed the downloads - this week, the audio is Partytown from the Del Mar Fair 1985 (Mr. Frey gets a bit risque) and a video of Peaceful Easy Feeling from the Kirshner Rock Concert in 1974.

And on a personal note - it was about this time last year that I started working on building this site in earnest - designing the look, making the graphics, scanning photos, writing the biography and show summaries, typing up lyrics, liner notes, etc. - so it would be ready by Nov. 6. At the time, I never thought I would see Glenn Frey play live (even as an Eagle - they were just doing California at that point) and I certainly never thought I would meet him. What a year it's been! Anyway, the site has evolved a lot since then. It keeps growing and growing, with the help of several Frey fans. I'm pretty proud of our work - thanks guys!

P.S. It also helped me in my professional development - look at my cool class website I made using some similar design strategies! Let's hope it helps me get a job after I graduate.
