Winter Wear and Download Overhaul

As usual, I have new downloads up this weekend: an MP3 of The Heat Is On from Tokyo 1992, and a video of Take It Easy from a 1973 performance. As is my new policy, it's up in both .mpg and .wmv file formats.

In fact, last weekend, I decided to reorganize my multimedia download pages for increased user-friendliness, adding copies of .wmv files to the video download pages - including the ones in the filmography for Frey's TV shows and movies. In my reorganization, I separated out all of the audio and video files and gave each set their own page in the Fun Stuff Downloads and the Live Treat Downloads. It was quite a job! Finally, to help everyone find everything as easily as possible, I developed a centralized Grand Index of Permanent Multimedia Downloads.

And one last download: I added three very short clips from an interview Frey did praising the Beach Boys from their Endless Harmony documentary.

An additional treat: Glenn Frey workin' the ski gear in this 1988 Rolling Stone spread. (Must be nice to be athletically inclined; the one time I tried to ski, I wound up accidentally going down the slope backwards, screaming in terror, stabbing my poles ineffectually at the snow in an attempt to stop myself before I careened into a hapless passerby. And no, I wasn't successful. I hit the poor guy like a ton of bricks. Unsurprising, though - I found it a daunting challenge just to get off of the ski lift without falling down and getting nailed by the chair.)

Updates, Updates, Updates

Since my trip out of town, I've been remiss on updating. Here's some new stuff:

New downloads: a video of Lyin' Eyes from Houston 1976, and a MP3 of Peaceful Easy Feeling from Frey's solo show at Casino Rama 2005.

New wallpaper: This one is from HFO.

New articles: Scanned in articles from Circus (1973), BAM (1982), and Rolling Stone (1990). While doing research for the golf section of the site, I also came across a nice article about his charity work in The Patroit Ledger (2000).

New video: I put up a pretty good quality version of Frey's video Livin' Right, and redid the screen caps for it. (Note: there is both a .mpg and .wmv version of the file. I've decided I'm going to put up .wmv aka "Windows Media Video" compressed versions of all permanent GFO videos because the loss of quality is not great and the download size is more manageable for people with dial-up. For those who want the highest quality, however, I will still put up .mpg versions).

Frey Sightings
  • This article from Inside Bay Area contains a quote from Frey about playing in the rain on Saturday
  • This article from SFGate.com has a quote from Frey on receiving the invitation for Pebble Beach
  • This article from the Golf Channel has a quote from Frey on which Eagles song best represents the game of golf

Downloads and Wallpaper and Baseball

The downloads for this week are an MP3 of the Eagles performing Tequila Sunrise from the second night of the Hell Freezes Over taping; the video is Already Gone from Christchurch, New Zealand in 1995.

I made a new Glenn Frey early-90s-era wallpaper - check it out on the Glenn Frey / Eagles Wallpaper page.

I also added some .pdf files of articles I scanned from Rolling Stone about the 1978 RS vs. the Eagles baseball game here and here, written by Frey/Henley and RS guys respectively. What a hoot!

Fast Company

I prepared the Fast Company lyrics page, as well as the Bonus CD index page. It's so great to have something new to put up!

I also added an old article from a 1977 issue of Phonograph Record which I thought had some interesting insights into band dynamics. Enjoy!

Deep Thoughts with Glenn Frey and Don Henley c. 1977

I added an article from the 1977 Crawdaddy to the site. Read Frey's ruminations on Earth as a "transient place" because it is "moving through time" while refusing to explain lines from Hotel California because it would "betray [our] poetry." Read Henley express how Hotel California is about "the universe" and how the songs of the Eagles are more "street" than Bruce Springsteen's. Gotta love it. Seriously, it is an interesting article overall, even if the author seems a bit unimpressed with the guys.

Added a new section to Quotable Frey: Quotes on Family Life. It only has two entries right now, but I'm sure that will grow as I come across more.

Downloads - finally

Finally got the downloads rotated - the MP3 is Lyin' Eyes from Long Beach 1980 and the video is Livin' Right from Dublin 1992. Watching Glenn Frey get down and get funky in the latter might give you a lift - it helped me momentarily get my mind off of the fact that I have writer's block on my dissertation and that the little I have managed to write sucks.

News Articles Out the Wazoo

After digging through Purdue University's archival database of nationwide newspapers dating back to 1985, I found a whole bunch of stuff on Glenn Frey. Here's the results of my research:

Also, I found a lot of concert reviews that helped me flesh out the following tour pages - they're linked from individual shows:

Additionally, I updated the biography with mention of the Felder settlement and the new album.

Finally, I added two articles about the Florida 2006 show.

And that's it!

Strange Weather Interview Audio; New Photo Page: Downloads

Kate J. sent me a copy of a Strange Weather promotional interview - I put it up for download and also put up a transcription for those who'd rather read it.

WitchyMummy also let me know about some photos of the recent Frey show in Florida on a photo wire service, and with their arrival, I decided we had enough to make a Prelude to Obscurity Era photo page. I did this in spite of the fact that "Prelude to Obscurity Era - July 2006-Present" sounds a bit pessimistic! But hey, he's been using that to describe his solo career since 1982, so there's not too much bite left in it.

Of course, as usual, I have new downloads for this week. The video is Sexy Girl from Tokyo; the audio is Smuggler's Blues from Minneapolis 1995.

P.S. This isn't technically Frey info but I had to add - just saw the James Gang in Cleveland and they rocked the house hard-core. I highly recommend going if you appreciate guitar genius, although don't expect Eagles songs or even an Eagles concert vibe. A James Gang show is a whole 'nother animal - one that's a lot wilder.
