Happy Independence Day!

Hope all the Americans had a Happy Independence Day! I'd meant to do this update earlier, but it was time to see the fireworks and I had to save it for when I got back. However, belatedly, I'd encourage you to listen to a live version of Better in the USA to enhance those patriotic feelings!

Now, as I've posted before, I got a bit backed up on updates for GFO. As a result, I've got a huge amount to dump on you now. Here goes:

Multimedia downloads: an MP3 of Chug All Night from Lenox in 1974 and a video of Lyin' Eyes from Seattle 1976, in honor of the song winning the One Of These Nights Survivor game.

Wallpapers: three wallpapers by Maleah.

MP3s: I finally got a Japanese copy of Strange Weather and added a MP3 of the studio version of Ain't It Love to the Fun Stuff Downloads (Great song!)

Photos: new photos can be found in the One of These Nights gallery, the Hotel California gallery, the Long Run gallery, the Allnighter gallery, the Soul Searchin' gallery, the Strange Weather gallery, the South of Sunset gallery, the late nineties gallery, the millennium gallery, the Farewell 1 First Legs era, and the Farewell 1 Last Legs era.

Golf pages: more screen shots have been added to the Pebble Beach 2007 page.

Tour pages: I've made a page for the recent Starkey Benefit, including photos, and added material to the Irvine 1982 show, the Revlon 2004 Benefit, the Lupus LA 2006 Benefit, and the Las Vegas Cannery Show in 2004 (including a review by Mag.)

Frey sightings:
  • It has been reported by sites such as Undercover that Don Henley has announced that the Eagles album will be out on October 30. However, when a spokesman for Henley was asked about it, he had no comment on the matter. Make of that what you will. I think we can at least have cautious optimism.

Starkey Benefit Photos

I know I've been terribly lax with updates - got a lot of projects going on at the moment - but I plan to do a mega-update soon. Until then, here's a link to some WireImage photos from the benefit.

More updates

I switched the downloads again - this week, the video is Take It Easy from Central Park (1972) and the audio is Smuggler's Blues from Yokohama, Japan (1995).

I created a new page detailing the compilations Frey songs have appeared on. Before I compiled this information, I had no idea the Heat Is On had been on so many of those things - it even managed to get included on "Movie's Greatest Love Songs" (?!)

I added information on a few more guest appearances, including the Jake Trout and the Flounders CD where Frey actually appeared on a little video that was on the enhanced CD as well as on an interview snippet. He even sang a verse of the parody entitled Struggler's Blues. I included snippets for download.

I also added details on a few more corporate shows Frey has done, including his concert for the State Farm convention in Las Vegas in September (great photos!) and a Hawaiian Party of Two show from 2005 (more photos)!

Amgen Summerfest 2005 and Downloads Updated

Added another show to the Solo Tour Database - the Amgen Summerfest 2005 show he did the July before last. Lots of photos! And since the Farewell 1 Era Photo Page got so big, I've now divided it into "Farewell 1 - First Legs" and "Farewell 1 - Last Legs" (hehe). For the downloads, I put up a video version of one of the Take It Easys from last week - Seattle 1976 (warning: dark picture). The MP3 is You Belong to the City from the Casino Rama show in 2005. Great outro!

Frey Sightings
  • Two mentions of the Frey show for SMACNA on Oct. 11. The SMACNA Newsletter has a snippet and a photo. This article in the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration News is more of a commentary, but it discusses the show.
  • The Eagles are on the VH1 Classic show "Class of 1977" which is playing today, Nov. 12 and tomorrow, Nov. 13 at 5:00 pm Eastern.

Multimedia Updates and Tiger Woods Benefit Page

I added a page for the recent Tiger Woods "OC Block Party" benefit to the Frey Solo Tour Archive. I also updated the multimedia downloads - this week, it's a MP3 of Take It to the Limit from the Ken Salazar Fundraiser in 2004 and a video of True Love from San Diego in 1992.

Frey Sightings
  • According to their newsletter, the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractor's National Association (SMACNA) is having Glenn Frey play at their convention in Phoenix on October 11.

Oops! Forgot last week! But new stuff now

Sorry I forgot to announce updates last week! But for this week, we have some cool stuff.

Bree sent the photo from her pre-Mt. Pleasant Meet'n'Greet and also an accompanying show photo, which are the first two photos on the Mt. Pleasant show page - scroll down to see them. (And no, seeing that first photo doesn't make me regret giving her the VIP pass I'd lucked into... well... ok, maybe I regret it just a little... it seemed the right thing to do because she had never met him and I had... but I didn't know there would be photos! I have no photo - I was too chicken to ask him to pose with me when I met him, but I so wanted one! Oh well. I probably would have looked fat in the photo anyway.)

I also found a good quality version of the video for Love in the 21st Century and put it on its video page for download.

The multimedia downloads have also been changed: the video is Already Gone from Seattle 1976 and the song is a Hell Freezes Over outtake, Heartache Tonight.

Finally, I updated the "About Me" page, which was a bit out of date.

News Articles Out the Wazoo

After digging through Purdue University's archival database of nationwide newspapers dating back to 1985, I found a whole bunch of stuff on Glenn Frey. Here's the results of my research:

Also, I found a lot of concert reviews that helped me flesh out the following tour pages - they're linked from individual shows:

Additionally, I updated the biography with mention of the Felder settlement and the new album.

Finally, I added two articles about the Florida 2006 show.

And that's it!

Cool water running through the burning sand

Some new additions to the site - thanks to timfan's help with screenshots (and giving me the DVD in the first place), I have created a few pages for the Hole in the World DVD single. Also, new downloads: How Long from Berkeley 1973 and a video of You Belong to the City from Mountain View, 1994. (Big file, but such a great performance.)

Download Rotation and New Information

Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh will be playing at another Tiger Woods benefit on October 7! It's in Anaheim, California. According to a recent news release, tickets start at $750. Find out more information on the official Tiger Woods Foundation Site or call (714) 816-1806.

More and more press is coming out about the new Eagles album thanks to Joe and Billboard.com. "The first half of next year" as a probable release time sounds good to me!

Now, for site updates. Barbara attended the Frey private show in Milwaukee and wrote a great review of it. Going back a little further, Jay sent in a few comments on a Party of Two show he saw back in 1993 in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

I also added some comments by Frey on On the Border to the song page in Quotable Frey, and a new Fun Fact that Frey was voted "Most Likely to Inhale" at Dondero High School. Of course, the sitemap has been updated for all this stuff!

Can't forget the downloads for this week - an MP3 of The One You Love from the Del Mar Fair in 1985 and a video of Take It Easy from Japan in 1995.

Frey Sightings
  • Frey's comments on hybrids at the Michigan show didn't come out of the blue. As this 2003 article states, he and his wife Cindy have been involved with Laurie David's anti-SUV (and other environmentally harmful vehicles) crusade for a while now. Thanks to SS for the link.
  • Miami Vice's incorporation of music such as Smuggler's Blues is blamed for popularizing the marketing of music through television programs in this article in the Age
  • This article in the Denver Post asks why the Eagles' Greatest Hits is the best-selling album of all time

Back to Reality

Well, the Glenn Frey Prelude to Obscurity tour is pretty much over, except for one more private show. So, all the shows formerly under "upcoming shows" have now been moved to the Prelude to Obscurity 2006 Tour Page. Also, Glenn did a new song during the shows that he said might be on the new Eagles album - if they ever get it finished. It's called I Love to Watch a Woman Dance and as you can see, I went ahead and gave it a page on the site. I also added a photo I took at the Mt. Pleasant concert. (And I must add - what terrific shows. If he ever tours again, I'm there.)

As for the downloads of the moment: Take It Easy from last year's Casino Rama show, and a video of Take It to the Limit from Tokyo 1986.

Time to Party

Since we're getting some long-awaited Frey solo shows this week and the next, I am putting up some thematically appropriate downloads: Heartache Tonight from last year's Casino Rama show, and a video of Partytown from Dublin 1992. Any town with a Frey show is partytown, if you ask me.

And yes, I am going to as many of these suckers as I can. Check out the top of the homepage for a link to purchase tickets. See you there!

Frey Sightings
  • Peforming at the Soaring Eagle Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on July 20
  • Performing at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario on July 21 and July 22
  • Performing at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida on July 27
  • Performing at the Borgata in Atlantic City on July 28

Michigan tickets currently on sale

Guys, the July 20th Mt. Pleasant, Michican show tickets should be obtainable online here, but the site appears to be going up and down erratically and/or giving errors when you try to buy. (Just our luck). You can call 1-800-585-3737 to get tickets until it's back up.

Florida tickets go on sale Friday at 5:00 EDT

Don't forget guys, if you want tickets for the Florida show, they go on sale tomorrow (Friday) at 05:00 PM EDT.

Frey sightings:
  • Glenn is briefly mentioned in Salon.com's review of the new book Laurel Canyon. Eagles hard-cores know that was where Glenn and Don spent a lot of time in the 70s! If you want more info about it, click on the book's site.
  • Another book, Hotel California, obviously has the Eagles in it (though they are not as prominently featured as the title would imply). In this review (scroll down), we get the following telling excerpt: "Glenn Frey and Don Henley 'were the horniest boys in town, living without rules or limits,' one ex-girlfriend says. 'We used to call that song (Lyin' Eyes) Lyin' Guys.'''
  • Glenn is mentioned in this article as a proponent of Taylor Guitars.
  • The Eagles are playing Munich's Olympiahalle tonight. The next show is Rome on May 27th.

Frey does Florida; Weekly Downloads to Boot

Well, as L&M posted, a Frey show popped up on Ticketmaster while I was on my weekend trip to New York! Now we have a solo show in Florida - specifically, Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL. It's on July 27th and tickets go on sale May 26th.

For this week's downloads, I decided that in honor of all the solo shows, I would put up Take It to the Limit from the last Casino Rama concert in 2005. Also, I put up an .mpg of The Allnighter from a Tokyo, Japan 1986 performance (poor quality due to source tape).

Potential Frey Sighting

Yesterday, Sandy posted to The Fastlane that she heard a DJ mention Glenn would be playing in Atlantic City in July. Further investigation has confirmed that negotiations are indeed in progress between Glenn Frey and an unnamed Atlantic City casino. Nothing is official yet. Hopefully more information will be available soon.

Another solo date and new site feature

The Fast Lane has received info that Glenn will do another solo date in Mt. Pleasant, MI on July 20! As of yet a link to buy tickets is not available, but it's exciting news anyway! I'd go, but I'm worried he might be freaked out by me following him around. I sure want to, though!

And this seems like a good time to unveil something I've been working on for a few weeks now: The Glenn Frey Solo Tour Archive. I've done a lot of research but the only way that thing will be filled out is if people send me further information, so please do, if you have it!

Frey Sightings
  • A cute article about Winslow, Arizona that mentions Frey is here
  • Glenn Frey and the other Eagles are on the list of people one must avoid if concerned about getting bird flu in this joke piece
