Download rotation and absence notification #2

Well, I'm off again tomorrow to visit the parents for a couple weeks. Until then, here are some downloads! Neither of them are the greatest quality, but they feature Frey on piano, which I love. The first is an MP3 of Outlaw Man from Osaka, Japan 1976; the video is Take It to the Limit from Columbus 2002. Enjoy!

I also added a download of the video Some Kind of Blue to its video page. I'm thrilled the video was put up on YouTube, but this is a bit higher quality than the one posted there.

Additionally, I've created an Eagles site called Eagles Online Central which is a bit of an umbrella for GFO and its sister sites. Check it out!

Happy Independence Day!

Hope all the Americans had a Happy Independence Day! I'd meant to do this update earlier, but it was time to see the fireworks and I had to save it for when I got back. However, belatedly, I'd encourage you to listen to a live version of Better in the USA to enhance those patriotic feelings!

Now, as I've posted before, I got a bit backed up on updates for GFO. As a result, I've got a huge amount to dump on you now. Here goes:

Multimedia downloads: an MP3 of Chug All Night from Lenox in 1974 and a video of Lyin' Eyes from Seattle 1976, in honor of the song winning the One Of These Nights Survivor game.

Wallpapers: three wallpapers by Maleah.

MP3s: I finally got a Japanese copy of Strange Weather and added a MP3 of the studio version of Ain't It Love to the Fun Stuff Downloads (Great song!)

Photos: new photos can be found in the One of These Nights gallery, the Hotel California gallery, the Long Run gallery, the Allnighter gallery, the Soul Searchin' gallery, the Strange Weather gallery, the South of Sunset gallery, the late nineties gallery, the millennium gallery, the Farewell 1 First Legs era, and the Farewell 1 Last Legs era.

Golf pages: more screen shots have been added to the Pebble Beach 2007 page.

Tour pages: I've made a page for the recent Starkey Benefit, including photos, and added material to the Irvine 1982 show, the Revlon 2004 Benefit, the Lupus LA 2006 Benefit, and the Las Vegas Cannery Show in 2004 (including a review by Mag.)

Frey sightings:
  • It has been reported by sites such as Undercover that Don Henley has announced that the Eagles album will be out on October 30. However, when a spokesman for Henley was asked about it, he had no comment on the matter. Make of that what you will. I think we can at least have cautious optimism.

Back again

I've returned with downloads! The video is The Girl from Yesterday from St. Louis in 1994. Warning: the quality is not that great - lots of people walking in front of the cameraman - but hey, if you want to see this song in great quality, pull out your copy of Hell Freezes Over! I still think it's a good performance of the song, though. The MP3 is a 1979 performance of Lyin' Eyes from Chicago.

Frey sightings
  • The Eagles played a gig for Walmart shareholders in Fayetteville, Arkansas last week - details in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The article also says the new album is scheduled to be released in the fall, but again, this has not been officially confirmed.

Download rotation and absence notification

I'm going to be heading off to California for a vacation on Tuesday - I figured it might be fun to see more of California than Livermore, the Pebble Beach golf course, and the highway connecting the two. Therefore, I won't be able to update anything except the front page news, which I can do from afar. That will only happen if something really important goes down, though! I'll be back in a little over two weeks.

For now, it's time for the multimedia download rotation. The video is of the Frey version of the Roman poet Horace's philosophy "Carpe diem; memento mori" (or, as the Grass Roots put it, "sha-la-la-la-la-la, live for today.") Yep, it's Before the Ship Goes Down. This is off of a 1992 episode of Late Night with David Letterman. The MP3 is that obscure rocker Outlaw Man, from Berkeley, CA in 1973 - got to stick that California aspect in here somehow.

P.S. Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

Allnighter Extravaganza!

Once again it's time for updates! Got a couple things going on today, both related to the Allnighter.

First, the download rotation: the MP3 is a live version of the eponymous Allnighter, done at the Del Mar Fair in 1985. The video is of I Found Somebody from a 1985 Japanese tour special.

Speaking of the Japan tour... check out the 20+ photos from the Glenn Frey Japanese tourbook I nabbed off of Ebay! Not too shabby, eh?

Wallpapers, Hall of Famers

Once again, the downloads are rotated - the MP3 for this week is Heartache Tonight from Irvine, CA in 1982, and the video is Take It Easy from the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame Induction in 1998.

I also put up a new wallpaper of the guys from 1975.

Frey Sightings
  • This site claims the album will come out in June; no official word yet, though, so don't count on it.

Updates, finally!

Finally, some new downloads! In honor of the song Desperado winning "Desperado Song Survivor" on our Eagles message board, my downloads for this week are two versions of Glenn Frey doing the song. The video is from Frey's appearance on the David Letterman show in 1985, and the audio is from Osaka 1992.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, everybody! To celebrate, have a listen to Wild Mountain Thyme from the Frey Dublin concert! It may be a Scottish ditty, but the Irish sing it with spirit. Download it as an. mpg (43 megs) or download it as a .wmv (10 megs)

R.I.P. Richard Jeni

Comedian Richard Jeni passed away this past Saturday. In memory, I put up the interview he did with Frey back in 1995 on the video download page.

Pebble Beach, Pepsi, and Already Gone

I put up the clips of Frey from Day 2 of Pebble Beach (thanks Julie!) They're on my Pebble Beach 2007 page.

I also put up one of the versions of Frey's 1985 Pepsi commercial with Don Johnson on the Fun Stuff Video Page. It's the version where you have both "You Belong to the City" and "Better in the USA" (or, rather, the Pepsi-fied counterpart "Pepsi in the USA").

Finally, in honor of its winning On the Border Song Survivor, Already Gone is both the video and audio featured multimedia download. The video is from Houston 1976 and the audio is from Boston 1974. While I was personally pulling for Best of My Love to win, I have to give AG its props - it is one rockin' song.

Winter Wear and Download Overhaul

As usual, I have new downloads up this weekend: an MP3 of The Heat Is On from Tokyo 1992, and a video of Take It Easy from a 1973 performance. As is my new policy, it's up in both .mpg and .wmv file formats.

In fact, last weekend, I decided to reorganize my multimedia download pages for increased user-friendliness, adding copies of .wmv files to the video download pages - including the ones in the filmography for Frey's TV shows and movies. In my reorganization, I separated out all of the audio and video files and gave each set their own page in the Fun Stuff Downloads and the Live Treat Downloads. It was quite a job! Finally, to help everyone find everything as easily as possible, I developed a centralized Grand Index of Permanent Multimedia Downloads.

And one last download: I added three very short clips from an interview Frey did praising the Beach Boys from their Endless Harmony documentary.

An additional treat: Glenn Frey workin' the ski gear in this 1988 Rolling Stone spread. (Must be nice to be athletically inclined; the one time I tried to ski, I wound up accidentally going down the slope backwards, screaming in terror, stabbing my poles ineffectually at the snow in an attempt to stop myself before I careened into a hapless passerby. And no, I wasn't successful. I hit the poor guy like a ton of bricks. Unsurprising, though - I found it a daunting challenge just to get off of the ski lift without falling down and getting nailed by the chair.)

Updates, Updates, Updates

Since my trip out of town, I've been remiss on updating. Here's some new stuff:

New downloads: a video of Lyin' Eyes from Houston 1976, and a MP3 of Peaceful Easy Feeling from Frey's solo show at Casino Rama 2005.

New wallpaper: This one is from HFO.

New articles: Scanned in articles from Circus (1973), BAM (1982), and Rolling Stone (1990). While doing research for the golf section of the site, I also came across a nice article about his charity work in The Patroit Ledger (2000).

New video: I put up a pretty good quality version of Frey's video Livin' Right, and redid the screen caps for it. (Note: there is both a .mpg and .wmv version of the file. I've decided I'm going to put up .wmv aka "Windows Media Video" compressed versions of all permanent GFO videos because the loss of quality is not great and the download size is more manageable for people with dial-up. For those who want the highest quality, however, I will still put up .mpg versions).

Frey Sightings
  • This article from Inside Bay Area contains a quote from Frey about playing in the rain on Saturday
  • This article from SFGate.com has a quote from Frey on receiving the invitation for Pebble Beach
  • This article from the Golf Channel has a quote from Frey on which Eagles song best represents the game of golf

Downloads and Wallpaper and Baseball

The downloads for this week are an MP3 of the Eagles performing Tequila Sunrise from the second night of the Hell Freezes Over taping; the video is Already Gone from Christchurch, New Zealand in 1995.

I made a new Glenn Frey early-90s-era wallpaper - check it out on the Glenn Frey / Eagles Wallpaper page.

I also added some .pdf files of articles I scanned from Rolling Stone about the 1978 RS vs. the Eagles baseball game here and here, written by Frey/Henley and RS guys respectively. What a hoot!

Pebble Beach Approaches... Downloads Rotate!

Time to change the downloads! This week, the audio is also courtesy of Yury from Italy: Heartache Tonight from the Lucca 2001 show. For the video, I have the Doolin-Dalton/Desperado Reprise from the Kirshner Rock Concert in 1974. Because the file was so big as an .mpg, I compressed it into a Windows Media file. I think you'll find there's not too much loss of quality or pixelation.

And as Pebble Beach approaches - just two more weeks! - I decided to link to a cute moment with Glenn Frey from the 2002 Pebble Beach tournament.

On the Loose with Downloads

Added an MP3 of the Frey/Tempchin song On the Loose. Glenn doesn't sing it, but since he co-wrote it and it's out of print, I thought it would be of interest.

I also made a new wallpaper from a photo I found in an old Takamine ad.

And finally, I rotated the downloads. The video this week is Peaceful Easy Feeling off of the BBC 1973 show. It's a fat file, but very good quality. The audio is another song from Yury: Frey doing You Belong to the City on the Mark and Brian radio show.

The Downtrodden Working Man

I arrived back in Indiana to find that Yury from Italy has sent me a real treasure - a slower version of Working Man with alternate lyrics which express sad resignation rather than the celebration of the album track. I've written up a Working Man (alternate version) lyric page, or you can click here to download the alternate version of Working Man. Yury also sent me a couple other rarities I will put up soon. Thank you very much, Yury!

New Message Board!

I decided to switch from the old private message board to a new-and-improved open Eagles message board called The Border. Check it out!

I also upgraded the screen caps for I Found Somebody. They're still not terrific, but they're better than they were.

The downloads for this week: audio from one of the Millennium shows in 1999 - Seven Bridges Road. The video is Tequila Sunrise from Holland 1973. These will be the last download updates for 2006, as on Tuesday I'm heading to Houston to visit the family. I'll still do a brief "remote" update here and there, but no uploads from that painfully slow dial-up connection.

Frey Sightings
  • Last Thursday, Frey played at Tiger Woods' Target World Challenge Pro-Am golf tourment in Thousand Oaks, California according to Yahoo News (check out the photo)! Also, there is a brief clip with Frey in it from that same event (thanks Kath).

More updates

I switched the downloads again - this week, the video is Take It Easy from Central Park (1972) and the audio is Smuggler's Blues from Yokohama, Japan (1995).

I created a new page detailing the compilations Frey songs have appeared on. Before I compiled this information, I had no idea the Heat Is On had been on so many of those things - it even managed to get included on "Movie's Greatest Love Songs" (?!)

I added information on a few more guest appearances, including the Jake Trout and the Flounders CD where Frey actually appeared on a little video that was on the enhanced CD as well as on an interview snippet. He even sang a verse of the parody entitled Struggler's Blues. I included snippets for download.

I also added details on a few more corporate shows Frey has done, including his concert for the State Farm convention in Las Vegas in September (great photos!) and a Hawaiian Party of Two show from 2005 (more photos)!

Kicking Off the Covers

In my never-ending quest to put as much information on this site as possible, I added a page of all the covers of Frey songs I could find. However, there are SO MANY out there that the list can't be exhaustive. I think it's a good start, though. If you know of some covers that are missing, e-mail me and I'll add them. The same is true if you spot an inaccuracy, such as the release year - sometimes I found conflicting information on that.

I also finally updated the downloads with two covers: the video is the Eagles doing JD Souther's How Long back in 1973 (although the video says 1972) and the audio is the Eagles doing Sea Cruise at Alpine Valley in 1980.

Frey Sightings
  • Several radio stations like this one have announced that the Eagles have new music out
  • Frey is mentioned in this article about producer Elliot Scheiner winning an Outstanding Sound Mixing Emmy for Farewell 1

Happy early birthday Joe!

Tomorrow (Monday the 20th) is Joe Walsh's birthday, so for this week's downloads I put up an audio from the "Party of Two" show in Devon, PA 1993 - Walsh and Frey share vocals on Life in the Fast Lane. For the video, it's Help Me Thru the Night from the Don Kirshner Rock Hour 1975, filmed in Australia. It was a "Walsh and Friends" show - and Frey, of course, is one of the friends. A lovely song.
